EVENT HISTORY
Many years ago, Sister Loyola Edelen, SBS, would travel with students to host a fun evening dinner at St. Joan of Arc in Phoenix, AZ. Upon her passing in December 2008, the dinners ended abruptly. Many supporters of St. Michael Indian School reside in Phoenix and the surrounding areas and today generously support the school through the Arizona Tax Credit programs, parish partnerships like the Adopt-A-Family Christmas program and monetary gifts of support to assist the annual fund of the school. St. Michael Indian School was founded by Saint Katharine Drexel in 1902. The doors opened in December of 1902 welcoming the first students to educational opportunities in their local communities. 120 years later, SMIS is a leader in education by educating preschool through high school students in St. Michaels, Arizona on the Navajo Nation. Elementary Girls Cross Country Triumph: The elementary girls' cross country team's remarkable achievement in clinching the AZ Youth XC State Title speaks volumes about the season marked by exceptional teamwork, unwavering dedication, and admirable sportsmanship. Coaches are elementary teachers and young alumni.
Graduating Class Achievements: In our most recent graduating class, we are proud to have a Gates Millennium Scholar, a testament to our commitment to academic excellence. Additionally, many graduates have declared majors in medical, science, and technology, reflecting our educational foundation's strength. With a graduation rate of 97% and a 93% post secondary enrollment rate, we celebrate the success and perseverance of our students.
Poetry Out Loud Excellence: A high school student reached top finalist status in the Poetry Out Loud competition, competing at the highest level among the state's most talented poets. This accomplishment reflects the depth of artistic talent within our student body and faculty club advisement in extracurriculars and clubs.
Spiritual Formation and Leadership: Middle and high school students took the initiative to establish the first Devotion to Mary club, promoting spiritual formation within our community. This club has become a source of inspiration, leading rosary sessions and prayers within the school, fostering a sense of spiritual growth and unity.
These success stories demonstrate our students' well-rounded and accomplished nature, encompassing sports, academics, arts, and spirituality. We celebrate our students' achievements and their positive impact on our school community.
