A Legacy of Faith and Learning

Nestled within the Navajo Nation, St. Michael Indian School serves as a cornerstone of learning and growth for nearly 325 students, from preschool through high school. Each classroom buzzes with curiosity and determination, supported by teachers who believe in every student’s potential.

Year after year, more than 93% of our graduates continue on to higher education — a remarkable achievement that speaks to the dedication of our educators, the strength of our community, and the promise that lies within every student who walks our halls.

Founded by Saint Katharine Drexel

Our story began with a woman of vision and faith. Born into a family of privilege, Saint Katharine Drexel chose a life of service, founding the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament to support Native and African American communities across the United States.

With the collaboration of Franciscan missionaries and local Navajo leaders, St. Michael Indian School opened its doors on December 3, 1902. What began as a small mission school has flourished into a thriving academic community — one that continues to honor Saint Katharine’s legacy through service, education, and faith.
